If you've built your station right you can access the large rotor menu from inside your tug and hit the attach button. Carefully lower your small rotor head until it's shaft is partially inside the large rotor. This obscures the small rotor head, but makes it easier to move in the next step.ĥ) Use your tug to connect to the blocks you attached to the rotor, then using the Rotor menu, detach the small rotor head and pull away from the small rotor with your tug.Ħ) Now carefully move your tug until you are directly over the large rotor that is headless. Place 3 rows of 3 small armor blocks on top of the small rotor head and weld them complete. You now have a large rotor connected to your station without any head on it.ģ) Create a small ship consisting of a landing gear, armor block and a standard rotor.Ĥ) THIS IS AN OPTIONAL STEP BUT IT MAKES LIFE EASIER. This is a LARGE rotor and you can discard it, you won't need it again. This method is a bit convoluted, so bear with me here.ġ) Install a standard (large rotor) on your station/ship in a spot where you have plenty of free space to move around in.Ģ) If you have a tug (and you should) connect to the large rotor head and lock your landing gear down, then detach the rotor head (using the rotor menu) and use your tug to move the rotor head away from the body of the rotor. I use this method to 'dock' service modules and have a standard small ship that I use as a general purpose utility vehicle for my station.

You CAN connect a small ship merge block to a station or large ship, but there's a trick to it and the small ship side isn't really connected to the station.
